Srixon Z-Star XV Review (2026): The Tour Ball That Holds Its Flight

The Srixon Z-Star XV is a fast, firm urethane tour ball built to fly on a penetrating line and hold that flight down in wind. It is Srixon's high-launch, high-speed model, the one to pick over the standard Z-Star when you have the speed to compress it and you want distance without losing the urethane cover's greenside bite.

Compression High (maker and gauge-test band)
Feel Firm
Flight Penetrating
Best for Fast swings, wind

Who is it for?

Faster swings. The Z-Star XV sits in the high-compression band, so it needs a real strike to give its best: get on it and you are rewarded with ball speed and a strong, boring trajectory; come at it slow and it will feel firm and leave distance on the table. If your driver speed is under roughly 100 mph, a softer ball will serve you better, and our compression guide explains why.

Flight and greenside

The XV's calling card is a penetrating flight that stands up in a crosswind rather than ballooning. It carries a cast urethane cover, so unlike the value balls it will check and spin on full wedges and short pitches, though most tour-ball comparisons place its greenside spin a touch below the very spinniest flagships. For a windy links or a firm parkland course in summer, that flatter, controllable flight is the point.

Buy it if, skip it if

Buy it if you swing fast, play in wind, and want tour-ball control at a price that usually undercuts the biggest names. Skip it if you need the softest feel or the absolute maximum wedge spin, or if your speed cannot compress a firm, high-compression ball.

Frequently asked questions

What swing speed does the Z-Star XV need?

It is a high-compression ball best suited to faster swings, roughly 100 mph of driver speed and up. Slower than that and a softer ball will carry further and feel better.

How is the XV different from the standard Z-Star?

The XV is the higher-launch, firmer, higher-speed model. The standard Z-Star flies a little lower with a softer feel. The XV rewards speed with a penetrating, wind-resistant flight.

Does it spin around the green?

Yes, it has a cast urethane cover so it checks and spins on wedges, though most comparisons rate its greenside spin slightly below the spinniest flagship balls.

Is it good in wind?

That is its strength. The penetrating flight is designed to stay down and hold its line in a crosswind rather than balloon.
