Are Wilson Ultra golf balls any good?

For their job, yes: durable, long, straight and cheaper per ball than anything else we rate. They are a value pick for golfers who lose several balls a round, not a performance pick.

How many balls are in the box?

Two dozen (24 balls), which is what makes the cost per ball the lowest in our beginner guide.

When should I upgrade from these?

When you stop losing three balls a round. At that point a softer ball like the Srixon AD333 or Callaway Supersoft gives you better feel for similar money per round.
